Citizenship of Romania

Restoration of Romanian citizenship by roots.
According to Romanian legislation, direct descendants of Romanians up to the third generation, that is, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, can apply for citizenship. Relatives of citizens who lived on the lands of Greater Romania "Romania Mare" in the period from 1918 to 1940 will be able to restore citizenship by roots. At that time, Romania included the territories of modern Romania, Moldova, as well as Ukrainian Bukovina / Chernivtsi region / and Bessarabia / Odessa region /.

Repatriation procedure in Romania:

  1. Collection of documentary evidence of the presence of Romanian roots;
  2. Registration of a "personal account" on the official portal of the State Administration of the Ministry of Justice (ANC). When filling in personal data, you should also indicate the city for the trip and personal application;
  3. Collection and formation of documents according to the mandatory list;
  4. Registration of an entry visa at the consulate in the country of permanent residence;
  5. Travel to Romania on the agreed date;
  6. Personal visit to one of the departments of the ANC Ministry of Justice by appointment. Submission of documents, interview with an immigration officer in Romanian. Assigning a unique number to the application (DOSAR);
  7. Waiting and online tracking of the status of the case on the official portal by DOSAR number until the decision of the Ministry of Justice is published in the "Orders" section;
  8. Receiving an e-mail message about the assignment of citizenship;
  9. Registration for the passage of the oath procedure within six months after the release of the application to the order;
  10. Taking the oath is available on the territory of the Russian Federation in the Romanian consulates of Moscow and St. Petersburg, as well as in the capital, Bucharest. After the ceremony, newly-minted citizens are awarded a Certificate of Citizenship;
  11. Obtaining internal documents on the basis of the Citizenship Certificate, registration of the place of residence. A full citizen is issued an ID-card (Buletin), a biometric passport, a local birth certificate, if necessary, a marriage certificate and a driver's license.

  • Passport - the original in a clean, neat form and one legible photocopy;
  • Two color photographs in 35/45 mm format - a frame on a plain light or white background, faces on 70-80% of the picture
  • Civil internal passport issued in the country of residence and photocopies of pages that contain personal information, marks, records, stamps, seals;
  • Birth certificate of the candidate;
  • Certificate of marriage / divorce, for widows / widowers - death certificate of the spouse / wife - if available;
  • Certificate of non-conviction from the country of residence, issued no earlier than six months before the submission of documents and the original and certified translation;

  • Documentary evidence of the applicant's relationship with a Romanian relative, namely birth certificates, marriage certificates of ancestors.
