Residence permit of Portugal through investment

The Portuguese residence permit and golden passport program by investment has been running since October 2012. The Portuguese Republic launched this program to attract international capital to the country's economy.

Benefits of the program:

  • the program is intended for wealthy businessmen from countries that are not part of the EU;
  • the program guarantees the right to work, study and live in the Portuguese Republic and to conduct business in European countries;
  • it is possible to apply for a residence permit for all members of the applicant's family, including the wife and minor children under eighteen years of age, adult children under twenty-six, if the children are dependent, unmarried and study at a university, the investor's parents if they are over 65 years old;
  • visa-free entry to 188 countries of the world, including the Schengen zone;
  • the opportunity to obtain a Portuguese passport after 5 years and you need to stay in the territory of the Republic for at least seven days during the first year and from fourteen days from the second year in order to claim Portuguese citizenship by investment after five years;
  • the opportunity to live, find a job, as well as open a business or study in Europe;
  • favorable tax regime for foreign residents, namely, exemption from income tax for 10 years of residence.

Conditions of the Portugal residence permit program for investment:

real estate;

venture funds, establishment of a company in the Portuguese Republic;

capital transfer;

donations.

Capital transfer is possible in four ways:

you can deposit 1,500,000 euros into an account in a Portuguese bank;

to invest from 500,000 euros in science and research of a public or private organization that is part of the national scientific and technological system of the Portuguese Republic;

to invest from 250,000 euros in the preservation and development of cultural heritage or in support of the artistic creation of Portugal;

acquisition of a venture fund or investment fund share in the amount of 500,000 euros.

List of documents for obtaining a residence permit:

  1. questionnaire;
  2. a valid passport;
  3. two passport size photographs;
  4. medical insurance;
  5. a certificate of no criminal record from any country in which the applicant has lived for more than 1 year, the certificate must be no older than three months before submitting documents with an apostille and translated into Portuguese;
  6. receipts of payment of all state fees;
  7. a sworn certificate that the investor will keep the investment in the economy for at least 5 years.

The state fee for each family member specified in the application is 5,336.40 euros. In addition, the investor pays an application and processing fee of EUR 533.90 for the person on whose behalf the application is submitted and EUR 83.30 for each member of his family.

The application is submitted to the Portuguese Immigration Service (SEF). Document processing time is from 1 to 6 months.

Investments are required to be invested before the submission of documents.

Minimum investment amount: from 280 000 euros

Receipt time: from 3/6 months



Cost of support for obtaining a residence permit in Portugal:

  • 50,000 euros per applicant;
  • 90,000 euros for spouse and applicant;
  • 115,000 euros for the applicant’s spouse and one child;
  • 140,000 euros for the applicant’s spouse and two children;
  • 35,000 for each additional family member.
